Problems During Actual Lifting

It was observed that downstream side span was settled 45 mm than upstream so it was required to achieve same level at upstream and downstream. So, hydraulic jack were operated only at D/S till we achieved same level. In spite of best efforts to maintain truly horizontal levels, it was noticed during the first lifting, that one of the jack shown an inclination in the vertical direction. However, ultimately it was possible to remove the plate below the jack by hammering with 5 kg. Hammer. Though this was a very tedious and labouries task, we succeeded in releasing the jack and continued further lifting. Taking into consideration the above, subsequently special efforts were made to ensure the vertical axis of the jack by means of plumb bob and filling gap by use of combination of tapered plates (shims) wherever necessary.
